January 3rd, 2011

HI ALL MY LOVED ONES!!!!

I hope you all had a great New Year! What has been going on there? I just want to tell you that I LOVE YOUR PICTURES! They are so stinkin cute! It was great to get to see you and all the nephews are getting freaking big! Keep me updated on anything exciting  :)

This week: we met an old lady, Maria Inez. I  don´t know if I told you about her last week but she is 83 and asks us to pray for her that she will find a husband. Well yesterday we went over to teach her and she was wearing a black see through skirt! It was like the meshy material that always has fabric underneath, except it didn´t have fabric underneath... haha:) She was wearing white granny panties. It was sooo funny. She went outside to let her dog out and I just started laughing so hard I couldn´t even talk and I told Hermana Buckner, "Can you imagine if she wore that to church?!?" Because we called her in the morning to see if she was going to come but she didn´t because she had visitors. But when we were there teaching her she insisted we have some Coke so she poured us a glass and my memory went back to last time she gave us a drink, Hermana Buckners had a hair in it and mine had whatever black floaty you could think of. So I knew that I just had to hurry up and drink my Coke this time because if I didn´t I wouldn´t make it down so I just started chuggin and then when I was almost done I looked in the bottom of the glass and there was all this food caked to it. EW it was so sick I just looked at Hermana Buckner and she had pretty much the same thing. It was interesting.

We met another old person (they are always the funniest) his name is Enrique and he just got baptized 3 years ago so he calls himself the baby of the ward. He went off telling us about anything and everything from his catheter to his notebook of words from the scriptures that he doesnt understand so he looks them up and writes down the definition. Is was so funny to talk to him, then he insisted that it was too far to walk to our next apt so we just had to take the migro (bus) and we walked us to the bus stop and waited with us, it was funny. He said his dream is to buy an apt (there is an apt building close to his house) so that all the missionaries could come visit him and stay there. He is so funny!

For my New Years: the morning of the 31 we had a morning of sports with my new area San Pablo and my old area Zapadencia, we played soccer, american football, ping pong, basketball, and kickball. I only played americn football and kickball but it was a lot of fun!  I got so sunburned, and everyone tells me too... haha:) But I look more normal now. Anyways, it was fun but made us so stinkin tired we got home and were sore  so we decided to set the alarm for 11:55 and then we would get up and have our gingerale and the cookies we had bought. When the alarm went off I rolled over to Hermana Buckner and asked ¨Do you want to get up?¨and she said no so we just listened to everyone outside countdown and said Happy New Year to each other and then went back to sleep. Lame, I know but we were dead to the world... haha:). Then in the night we kept waking up because everyone was so loud until like 4 in the morning and you heard all the drunk people come in and so it was intersting. Seriously I have never seen people with so much alcohol. They would be walking down the road with each person carrying 4 huge bottles of whatever. It was crazy and people would be in the streets drunk at 3 in the afternoon. It was interesting. But ya, that was my New Years.

On Sat we were out working before lunch and we went to visit someone and Hermana Buckner looks over at me and my plaque (my name tag) is gone. My clip thing was still there but my actual plaque was gone so we retraced our steps (which was a lot) and we never found it it so I am using my other one now and am ordering a new one just in case something happens to this one too. So that was kinda interesting- I dont know who would want to pick up a Hermana Whyte tag but I guess someone.

Yesterday, we didn´t have any investigators at church, lame, its like showing up to game day, and no one is there. But we had a really good meeting. A lot of people are on vacation for the holidays and summer so there were only 78 of us (last week there were 96 I think) but it was good and we had a lady come who hasnt been to church in like 15 years so that was good, she said she wants to start the New Year out right so that was exciting.  I bore my testimony in sacrament (that is one of my goals, to do it every month) it was ok, I´m sure my spanish was pretty interesting but it was ok. Its weird when your a missionary you get so used to doing stuff like that that you don´t get really nervous anymore. So that is good.

Well, now that I´ve talked your ear off. Tell me about your lives :) How are you all doing? You look good! (AnnMarie and Calvin and Mom and Dad I can´t judge because I haven´t seen a recent picture) But it is good to hear from you and keep me updated on your lives! I sent some stuff to Mom and Dads today for them to distribute so it should get to them in about 3 or 4 weeks, then you will have legit hand written letters :) But until then, the emails will have to do. Have a good week and remember that I LOVE YOU ALL SOOOO MUCH!!!
Have a good new year!

Christmas Call Video 2010

This is a video of me waiting for you to call me back on Christmas. We are just hoping that it works because we were so sick of the freaking ghettoness of Chile because the blasted phone card wouldn´t work to begin with (mine or Hermana Buckners) and then when we got through the ghetto phone wouldn´t work (not that it worked that good during the call) but at least we finally got to talk! It was fun to hear from you!

Love you so much and hope you all have a great time!

Christmas Dinner Video 2010

This is the video of our Chrismas dinner at the mission home. Their house is so nice, its huge and has a pool and everything! The food was good, but not amazing. I was expecting like a home cooked Christmas dinner with the works because everyone says its amazing. And it was good, we just had a lot of veggies and stuff like that but it was fun to see everyone and we got to go caroling so, that was fun too.

Hope you enjoy

December 27, 2010 (with pics)

Hello all,
It was so great to be able to talk to you on Christmas! It sounds like you had fun! I hope you all enjoyed some good old home cooking for me :) Although I am feasting off the treats that I got in my package so I'm partly at home. But what are all your plans for New Years? Mom and Dad, is that branch doing anything? You all better make some happening plans. I think we have something at the mission home or actually I think in the morning of the 31st we are having a sports day where we go and play whatever sports we want and they might be counting  that as our activity, who knows but, ya thats whats going on here.
On Christmas after I talked to you we just went out and worked. Nothing really exciting happened. We met a few more of the members and then at church yesterday we didnt have any investigators. One said she might be able to come but all the others (well the other 2) said they would be out of town. So that was kinda lame but we have a 70 in our ward, Elder Barros. We met him on Tues and he was just dressed like normal and just talkin to us, then he said he was a 70 so he wasnt at the ward much and we were like... oh man. And he was there yesterday and I had to get up and present myself..I dont know what I said but I´m pretty sure my spanish was all wrong but oh well. Hermana Buckner had to give a 20 min talk so I was glad I wasnt her.
In this zone we have an attack on a sector- sorry i don´t really know how to say it in English but the whole zone goes to one companionships area and they just knock doors and talk to people and try to get as many people ready to be taught as possible so that is what we did yesterday. The place we went to was way out in the country (not that I´m complaining, I loved it) but we took a bus to the metro station where we had to catch a special  bus to take us out to this place called Curacavi. It took about 45 min to get out there but it was fun. The Elders asked us to go to this area that was far away and the map we had was so lame but we kept asking people and they said ya just follow this road in this direction for a long time. They all asked us if we were going to take a taxi or a bus and we said no we are just walking and they all thought we were crazy so we knew it was a long ways away. We never found it after we had been walking for over 30 min so we just stopped at the next road and knocked doors there. When we met back with everyone we told the Elders that we never found it and come to find out everyone had told us wrong and it was clear on the opposite side of the town, but oh well... haha:) They at least have some new people to teach in whatever area we were in.
Today we are going into downtown (I better get ready for the long metro ride, its like 45 min into town I think) so yep that will be great, we are going to meet up with some other Hermanas and do something, we don´t know what yet but it´s exciting to go somewhere... haha:)
Sorry I haven´t been using the ´ sign because I just figured out how to work it so hopefully you can still understand. I swear everyday the keyboard is different.
Here are my pics:
This is the couple we spent Christmas Eve with. They are super great and so nice! She is the RS pres and he is the 2nd counselor in the bishopric
This is my new district at our Christmas dinner at the mission home. Elder Martin on the left is from Vegas and then Elder Vance on the right is from Idaho Falls. Tell Becky that he is in my district because she knows him. Well, Trudy Pool works for his dad so thats how that works and so Becky wrote me about him in the MTC and now we see each other at least once a week. He is super good at singing and playing the piano I told him that when he is the next American Idol he better give me his autograph... haha:)
This is me Christmas morning opening my package. THANK YOU!!! It was so great!

This is me talking to you on Christmas. If you cant tell its really hot!! haha:)

This is the view on our field trip out to the country yesterday. It reminded me a lot of home, actually more like Arco, but it was fun. I even saw some cows so, that made my day too!

This is me and Hermana Buckner at our Christmas dinner at the mission home
Hope you enjoy the pictures and that they make sense
Thank you for everything and have a great New Year!!!!! I love you all so much and ever since we talked on the phone it seems like we are so much closer, like I´m just a hop, skip, and a jump away so its great! Thank you for all your love and support! You are the best!!!
TE AMO TE AMO TE AMO!!!!
Yours truly,
Steph

Hand written Christmas Letter to the Keith Whyte Family:)

December 24th, 2010

I hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year! Did you get to do anything fun? Here it's Christmas Eve and everyone is busy celebrating so I have a little time to write you a little letter.

Being on a mission I have realized a lot of things. How blessed I am to have an amazing family (such as yourselves) Thanks for all your love and support you have help me so much. You are great examples to both me and your kids. The other day there was a baptism in our ward and it made me so excited for Noahs baptism. I am glad I got to live close to you for a little bit and was able to spend a little time with you. I have no idea what I am going to do after my mission but I hope we get to see each other a lot, even if it is just to do hair:) Plus, Easton needs to remember who I am...haha:)

I hope you are all doing well. When does Kyle get home from his mission? Some days I think I am going to be here forever and others I just want the time to slow down. I feel like in this letter i keep switching from missionary Steph to real Steph..haha I am beginning to feel like the two are starting to blend into one. So, if I am weird when I come home you are gonna have to come up with a plan to help me out! But, for now I'll turn to my missionary side

I was thinking how horrible we used to be when Mom and Dad would have Scripture Study and FHE and Prayers and such but, now I realize how important they are. Remember to always do it with your kids-they will be grateful someday.

Here on my mission I have also realized how powerful the Book of Mormon is. It really has the power to change your life if you let it.I am so grateful for all the blessings God has given me. I must have done something right in the preexistence  or else been horrible so God knew I needed all the help I could get. Either way I am grateful. Thanks again for all your love and support I couldn't ask for anything better. Remember I love you all and pray for you everyday (As I know Noah is doing for me:)- Thank Bud!)

Love Always
Steph

Hand Written Christmas Letter Home From Hermanas Whyte AND Buckner

Feliz Navidad                                                                                    December 2010

Good tidings we bring to our families and friends from your missionaries here is Chile!! We have had a lot of goings on from Idaho to Chile! We have kept busy and now we are both busy with the missionary life. We wouldn't have it any other way.

A year in the life of Stephanie Whyte
What a  year its been. I started out by transferring to a new school (BYU-I) taking a 6:30AM class in January...In Rexburg...It wasn't my brightest idea. But, as I have been told "You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit!" There were some good time, some bad, and some to always remember. We had a lot of changes. My Dad changed careers, Liz&Joel moved to Farr West, I don't have any new nieces or nephews but I'll take the ones I've got. (If they even remember me after a year and a half) Oh, and I live in Chile now!! I never would have guessed this is where my life would take me, but I am loving it! I've only been here a month and I love seeing peoples lives change as they come to know the Savior. Even though I can't understand them sometimes. I just smile and say "No, En Serio?! Eso es lo que paso?! And so...Life is Good! Livin the dream as a Sister Missionary here in Chile for the next year and a half.

A Word or Two from the Almost Chilena (Hermana Buckner)
Wow! What a year opener I had! Started out by arriving in another country, and then being welcomed by a huge earthquake! Talk about an ice breaker, almost a year later and people still talk about it. From having dogs chase me on my bike and having bugs bite me, seeing people completely change their lives for the Gospel, having friendly fliates help me, opening an area where there hadn't been Sister Missionaries for 20-30 years, hearing about my brother Nicks wedding, Bridget graduating, Liz moving to NC for the summer, and now my parents are home for the first time as empty nesters. So, I've just about seen and heard it all. However, there is still more to come, serving a mission is the best thing I've done. I wouldn't change it for anything.

Se que esta es la obra del Senor. Estoy agradecida por estar aca en Chile! Amo el erangelio. Amo a mi Salvador. Se que esta es la Iglesia de Jesucristo. Lo se y lo siento!! Les amo!

We hope that our families and friends have a very Merry Christmas. because "it's the best time of the year...we don't know if there'll be snow (actually we know there won't be snow here) but have a cup of cheer"

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
I have bad news...I got transferred! So now I have no idea when I´ll be calling or from where I´ll be calling. All I know is expect a call sometime on Christmas. Ok, I just found out that we are going to get 30 min to email during the week to tell you about the phone call situation, so keep posted. But I'm still with Hermana Buckner so that is a good thing we have going for us... haha:) We are both new (obviously) and we get to open a new sector again. It is a lot nicer than our old sector as far as the houses and stuff go. Our apt is like 100 times nicer and bigger so that is exciting but we have no idea where anything is as. We spent the whole morning trying to find a ride here because we had no idea where our apt was at and 2 of us taking 5 HUGE suitcases on the metro was not going to work out. We finally got a recent convert´s Uncle to help us out. It was a funny ride...there were 8 of us in a tiny blazer thing (I´ll attach a photo) but it was a hot ride. And now we are here and just found internet, so life is good!
It was hard to leave Villa Primavera because we just started to get to know the people and a miracle happened last week, on Mon after p day we went to do a FHE with a family and the parents had forgotten and left so we decided to give lesson 1 because the daughters boyfriend isn´t a member but has been going to church and seminary for a year but never felt ready to get baptized. So we taught him-the sprit was so strong and we invited him to be baptized the 26th and HE ACCEPTED! He said he had been thinking about it and was thinking the 26th but hadn´t told anyone. It was really cool! He is so great, really timid, but has a strong testimony. And now I won´t be able to see him get baptized but I´m still excited for him.
Ya, this week I can´t think of much (I didn´t write it down during the week so I now I will probably be rambling again) Oh, we were supposed to go caroling at a mall as a zone but that got canceled so we went caroling to peoples houses in the ward. It was really fun and we got 2 people to cry because the spirit was so strong. I think we should try that here in our new sector to try to get to know people this week. So we will see what happens.
My new sector is called Los Mares, its in San Pablo. And that has just about as much significance to you as it does to me... haha:) I really have no idea where I'm at. All I know is its the last metro stop on the green line ...haha:) and I just came from the second to last metro stop on the yellow line (complete opposites) So ya...just really far away. I know it takes about 50 min on metro to get from where I was to here but its a little closer to central Santiago, probably about 25 min. But I´ll try to keep you updated.
This week we went to the temple. It was really cool! It was hard to stay awake because you are always so stinkin' tired as a missionary but it was really good. I was glad I went alot before my mission so I could kinda catch what they were saying from what I already knew they would be saying. You don´t move at all but it´s really pretty. The last part was hard to do in spanish, haha I just tried to mimic what the lady was saying even though I had no idea what it was... haha:) We also had a training with Pres. May on Thurs, which was pretty good. So I feel like we have been running like crazy because we also put on a ward Christmas party as Missionaries. It turned out really good. At first I was nervous no one was going to come but we ended up having about 30 people there. It was fun. We watched "Joy to the World" about Christ´s birth and then had them build Santa Clauses house with spagetti and marshmellows (who ever got it the biggest won) and then we gave them bags of random things and had them do a skit. They all really liked it because they had never done any of those activities before so it was really good. And then we had cheese empenadas which were sooo good and Hermana Buckner and I had made sugar cookies, which they had also never tired, and they loved them. So all in all it was really good. We didn´t teach our piano class this week because we had clean checks for our apt and we couldn´t find keys to the church so we didn´t do them.
AnnMarie- CONGRATS! You are offically graduated. Wow I bet it feels good, although now you have all sorts of responsibilities with your 8-5... haha:) but at least you have a job right.
Are you all excited for Christmas? When are you all getting together and how long are you all going to be together? We walk around singing Christmas songs all the time and at the Christmas primary activity they had us as Missionaries sing Christmas songs in English. I think their favorite was "Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer" with the repeat (reindeer, like a light bulb, ect) because once again I acted like a dork and did crazy actions with it but whatever it takes to make the kids laugh right... haha:)
For the call on Sat- I will call you using my card and we can just talk from there or if you want you can call me back if you want to do it different. You all decide and let me know what is best. We will figure out how to call if its the last thing we do... haha:) We didn´t have much room to bring stuff to our new apt but I fit my little tree in my purse and so we at least have that and my package... so we can have something to do for Christmas. But in my heart I'm really there in the freezing cold with all yall :)
I cant think of what else has gone on this week. I got an email saying that the 2nd part of my letter didn´t go through last week so I have no idea what I said and what I didn´t say and what got sent and what didn´t but I hope you are all doing good and excited for Christmas! I'm so excited to talk to you all. I only have 40 min so Its going to go by super fast but I'm excited anyways! Tell everyone there MERRY CHRISTMAS for me! I love you all and will be talking to most of you soon.
And now for some pictures:
This is me at the temple on Tuesday
Me defrosting our freezer with 2 blow dryers (it was so bad you couldn´t fit anything in there because there was so much ice and water was running all over because there was so much it didn´t know where to go)
The winning team of the Santa Clause house at our ward party

This was our ride to our new area today. It was stuffed full! Imagine 8 people in there and all of that stuff plus more. I don´t know how we did it... haha:)
My disgusting tan line. It is super bad and its funny to because my ankles are the dark color but then as you get up to my calves its so stinkin white (but at least there isn´t a line there, its just gradual)

This has been a week in the life of Hermana Whyte...
I sent a letter to Mom and Dads. I don´t know when it will get there but hopefully in time for Christmas. I was going to send a picture with it but its so hard to find a place to print pics and when you do there is always a line for about 3 hours so its never worth it. Oh ya, and weeks ago I sent a post card to Mom and Dads. Did you ever get it?
Let me know whats going on there and all the stuff that goes on this Christmas. It´s hard to believe its here already. Hopefully this next year flies by :)  Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and I´m so excited to talk to you!
TE AMO TE AMO TE AMO MUCHO!!!!
Love always!

December 13, 2010 Part 2 (with video)

This video is self explanatory, A video from Santa Lucia overlooking Santiago- Ya, its pretty sweet I know- even though it just looks like a big city (which thats pretty much all it is... haha:)
OK, now I can type as it loads so I have time to say everything...

Also, a man who was the Bishop in this ward for 9 years passed away on Sat. so we went to his viewing, they do it so fast here, he died at like 3:00 Sat. morning, they had the body prepared, and had the viewing Sat from 11 am to 10 pm, then they had the funeral and us 4 Sister Missionaries sang "Be Still my Soul" in espanol of course. It was sad but it was OK because he was super sick and his wife died around the same time last year. They worked together and did everything together so now they get to have Christmas together. And then an hour later after the funeral on Sunday, there was a kid in the ward who got baptized, we didn´t work with him at all because his parents are members, so we just went and once again had to sing "When I am baptized." Yep, we do a lot of singing and playing the piano.

I recieved your Christmas package!!! Thank you! I have to admit, I took a little peak. Well, I wasn´t going to but then I read Christmas Tree and decided I might as well open it and take that out so I get to enjoy it before Christmas. So I did (as you can tell from the picture) and I love it, its so cute. And I might have just happened to let my eyes wander to the other stuff but don´t worry I put a lot of it back (besides the Christmas stuff to give away (pics and pencils and jazz)) so the rest is sitting under the tree waiting for Christmas day. I wouldn´t have gotten it in my hands until tomorrow but the people in the office love us so they brought it over and we traded them for some treats so it all worked out... haha:). Thank you!

Ok- I think I will call you at 11 o'clock your time on Christmas day, so just let me know weather to use my calling card or if you want me to call real fast on it then you call Andreas house phone. Let me know and sadly we can only talk for a short time but its going to be fun! I´m excited even though I only talked to you a couple months ago, I could get used to this, but I can´t because I have 6 months to wait after this
562- 419-3824  is the number to Andrea´s house, also if you have questions you can talk to her through face book, she is on there everyday I think. And if I happen to get transferred...I have no idea what I will be doing or when, so hopefully this is the plan but if not I'll let you know next week because transfers are a week from today.

I think that is about all for this week... I have talked your ears off and I know you have a ton to do so I won´t take any more of your time.

Thanks for all your love and support! You really are the best! Tell everyone Hi and Merry Christmas for me! LOVE YOU TONS and then some :)

December 13, 2010 Part 1 (with pics)

Hola my loved ones! Greetings from Santiago.
We came down town today and I saw the big ol' Christmas tree in the town square deal so it got me in the holiday spirit AND I get to call you in 12 days...but whos counting. We got rules on our call today. They can´t be longer than 40 min (lame) but I will be calling from Andrea´s house. (friends with mom on facebook) She is super great. She just joined the church in May and just moved to our branch, and she speaks English so its even better... haha:)  That is the plan for now...unless I get transferred but I hope I don´t. Here they mostly celebrate on the 24th so we will go to the Bishops house for that and then the 25 we can just chill, visit some people, and call you. Write Andrea about her number and details with all that. I´m not sure what will be best. If I use my phone card will it take a ton of min for just one min here because its international? or if its cheaper I can just call you and then you call me back if it will be better. Let me know what you find out and what I should do.
This week has been an interesting one. I wrote down a lot of things to tell you so my letters arent lame rambling. So... last p day we went to Santa Lucia. Basically you just walk up a lot of stairs and stuff and you get to look out over all of Santiago. Its pretty sweet! (pictures inculded). And then we also ran into our old investigator Sandali, who dropped us and she said she took an box knife to school and cut three peoples arms because they were bugging her. I have no idea what the deal is there...super crazy.
We (me my comp, and Andrea) got talking about weird things they do here in Chile. So here is a list of things that I don´t think I have told you-
They always point with their lips
They have farias (shopping things on the side of the street with anything and everything in them from onions to laundry detergent, to clothes
There is PDA everywhere- it pretty much sicks me out
It´s normal to call people fat
They open their cans with a knife instead of a can opener
There are a tons of pregnant little girls running around (even more than back home)
Whenever you order drinks they bring them out on a platter
Thats all I have for now. But other things this week... We were going to an apt and this little boy who was probably 3 years old called out from behind the gate (everyone here has gate/fence things like in Mexico) and he had a spiderman toy. He was so cute and said his name was Juan but he changed it to Avatar and he has all these powers... haha:) he said "check your cell phone, I just put a whole bunch of games on it with my mind" ha:) It was so stinkin funny. Then when we said goodbye and walked away, he yelled out, ¨Behave yourselves¨ it made my day.
Also this week, we were walking to a store and like always these guys were cat calling and saying "Hi Hi" and all that jazz...so we just ignored them like always and went into the store but one of the guys followed us in there (it was his families store) and said "I was greeting you and you just ignored me"  and we said "No, you were just bugging us." and then he gave us some candy. So it all worked out... haha:)

Here are some pics...
Me at Santa Lucia last week

Us Sister Missionaries ( My Comp, and her old Companions- who are out in the field in the middle of nowhere- haha:) and Myself) at a Peruvian Restaurant

Elder Young and Elder Driscoll (the office Elders) loving the Peruvian food (just whole chickens and a lot of salad) oh and the Inka Cola as always!

Me and my favorite Christmas tree that I snuck out of the package :)
Me and the wood statue at Santa Lucia - the closest I´ll be getting to a guy for a while... haha:) Oh, except the drunk guys the other night who kept talking to us and moving closer and touching my hair!! haha:)
Oh the random little things that happen (they just pop in my mind so when I randomly go off, I hope you can understand)

I´m going to continue this on the next letter because I want to send a video and there isn´t enough room in this email so
TO BE CONTINUED.....

December 6, 2010

Hello!

How is everyone there? I keep thinking about you all in the mountains of snow while I´m sweating like a dog... haha:)  I better enjoy it while I can because winter is going to come fast. I feel like I don´t have much new to tell you. It has kinda been a boring week. Although our investigator Juana asked us if it was ok if she sang, making sure she wouldnt be breaking a commandment, "because Im really good at singing." she said, people pay me to sing for them. As she gets up and turns on a song and starts to sing. But it wasn´t just singing, she was putting her whole soul into it. About half way throught the song she gets up out of her chair and swinging her arms and belting this song. I was trying so hard not to laugh and the whole time I was thinking, man I wish I had my camera. It was so funny. Maybe you just had to be there but just try to picture this 65 year old lady singing her heart out in her little dining room. It was so great. That is pretty much the only thing exciting that I can remember. Yesterday we had ZERO investigators at church. so that was lame but this week we are going to lay down the law and hopefully they will come. There is a girl who just moved here from another stake. She is 27 and just got baptized in May. She wants to go on a mission so I think she will be going with us alot to kinda see what it´s all about. She is super great and she actually speaks English. Her family, except her mom, lives in Utah, I´m not sure if they are members of the church or not but she is either going to go on a mission next year or move to Utah and go to BYU. She is funny to be with and so I guess that was exciting this week too.

Liz, how was your birthday? Did you do anything fun? I hope you will forvige me for not being more festive. You will have to email me a picture of your huge Christmas tree.

Annie, are you so excited to be finishing up with school? It´s so close! You can make it! I hear you got out early for Thanksgiving because of the snow. Is that true?

Dad and Mom, I´m sure you are having fun in Mexico, it was fun to get your email from Chet, and I actually understood Lauriannas note, tell her thanks. And I´ll take you up on their request about taking me back someday... haha:) I know you will have to pull my arm :)

Keith and Amber, are you getting all set for Christmas, that is exciting you saved some money on Black Friday, and think of the stories you will have to tell your kids about how much sleep and fighting you sacrificed to get their presents when they were little... haha:)

Noah, I hope you had fun at Grandparents Day, I hear you did so good on your songs and on your decoration of the bag for Lees for Thanksgiving! I love you and remember to be good so Santa Clause will bring you some presents.

What fun Christmas things do you all have going on? I´m sure you all are super busy.
I feel lame because this is so short and usually I ramble on for ever and my letters are forever long but that is pretty much all I have for this week, I´ll try to be more exciting next time
Remember I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH and pray that you are safe and having fun. Which I´m sure you are. I hope you will forgive me, I didn´t send a Christmas package or anything but I send my love in my email if that counts haha. LOVE AND MISS YOU!

November 29, 2010 with Video

I¨m not sure if it works to send videos but I¨ll try it out and you will have to let me know if it works or not.

This is a video of Sat morning soccer. Every Sat morning at 6:30 our zone goes and plays soccer. This is my first time going and we didn´t even play because we were afriad they would hate us because we aren´t good. But it was funny, there were 3 fields going and they put all the gringos on the same field so they wouldn´t mess up everyone else... haha:)  Then the other fields were of native missionaries and ones who played soccer before and then there were also members, investigators, and friends. It was pretty fun but we usually don´t wake up until 7:30 so loosing a whole hour and 15 min of sleep....don´t know if its worth it. But we have been running every morning, usually the same route so if we go to ¨play soccer¨we get to leave our sector and get different scenery for our run... haha... lame I know but it was kinda exciting... Wow, it´s amazing what you get excited about on the mission, huh??  But we will see if we go this week or not.

Wow this is taking a long time to load, I was going to write a different letter about my week but I´ll just add it on here.
This week we changed the date of Juanitas baptizm for the 19 and Sanadali our 14 yr old investigator dropped us because she didn´t feel comfortable at the church, we have lots of groups in the young womens, and she has brain tumors and so is a little bit different so it was sad that she didn´t feel like she fit in but hopefully some day she changes her mind. On Friday we helped a sister in the ward paint her bedroom. It was super fun, super messy too because it was Chilean style lol dump it in a bucket and dip in your roller, don´t worry about taping anything or getting it on the cement floor. We were covered in paint but it was fun.

For Thanksgiving, every Thurs is our planning session from noon until four so we just ordered in pizza and had a pizza party. Then went to work. I´m pretty sure everytime I eat pizza now I¨m going to think of Thanksgiving... haha:). This week we had two tremblers of earthquakes but I didn´t feel either of them. One was at about midnight on Fri. I think it was and the other one at 2:30 ish on Sat. My roomate felt the one at lunch but I didn´t feel anything.

For Christmas we are going to the temple, even though we are going a week from Fri, its part of our mission Christmas celebration. Then we have had the Bishop invite us over and also Carolina who got baptized, her family invited us over, and also an investigator Patricia, well her kids are members-they invited us over too. I think we might go to Carolinas and maybe they will let us use their phone, I might need more min on my phone card the number is 1-800-506-9511 oh the customer service number is 1-888-854-6740 and the card number is 3473-3315-4602. I don´t know if thats all you need but maybe check it out before Christmas because we can´t Skype in my mission so a phone call will have to do. But I´m excited, it hasn´t really been that long but I´m excited. Then we might go to the Bishops for a little while to. I´m not quite sure but this all depends on me not getting transfered in a couple weeks. I don´t think I will just because we just opened this sector but who knows.

I don´t have a CD player, a sister in my apt does but thats all. I don´t know how many people have them-as far as I know, not a whole lot.
Sorry I´m out of time and don´t have time to write you back individually this week but thanks for your letters, it makes my day! Have a good week and I will write you next Mon and talk to you in like 4 weeks!

Liz HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I didn´t get a card sent off or anything but make it a good one and have fun!!!

I love you all and hope you are safe and doing good!

November 29, 2010

We made cookies with our new oven and forgot about them and so needless to say we didn´t have very many but we do feel privileged because there are only 2 apts in the whole mission who have an oven and we are one of them.

This is my Thanksgiving. We celebrated with pizza! It´s a little different than normal but it was kind of a treat for us because we never eat pizza and then also 2 of the Elders in the office brought us a pizza for our Thanksgiving because we asked them to as a joke but then they really did it so we had lots of pizza and just finished it last night... haha:)

I look like a complete fool in this pic but the Stake Relief Society had a mañana para ti, a morning for you. It was way fun they had a a room to get your hair cut, a room for facials, a room for hand scrub massage thing, and a manicure room too. So this is me after I got my nails painted. My comp told the ladies that I went to beauty school and learned all this stuff so now they want me to do something like it for just our ward. So I might have to do that even though I don´t really want to because I honestly don´t remember anything about facials and manicures so we will see what happens... haha:)

This is Juana, one of our investigators, getting her hair cut at the RS activity. She was loving every minute of it. She was so funny, her first Sunday she came to church she took pictures with us on her cell phone...why..I¨m not quite sure but it was funny, she loves having us over but I hope everything goes well for her baptism. It´s scheduled for the 19 of Dec because she didn´t feel like she was ready for the 5th and now her whole family is going against her joining the Church but thus far she has stuck up for her testimony. But she didn´t come to church yesterday and so we don´t know quite what the deal is, but hopefully it all works out. She is super great and will talk to you for hours if you let her haha

This is a pic of me and Hermana Buckner with Carolina who got baptized yesterday!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!! It was super good! And her family is super good too. They weren´t active in the church but now they are planning on getting married in Feb and getting ready to go to the Temple in a year. It was a super good day!!!! And she got confirmed, which they never do in the same day, but her family was here from South Chile so they did it right after. She was super nervous but it went good!

Thanksgiving Testimony

As part of Thanksgiving, I wanted to tell you a few things I´m grateful for:

I´m grateful for a wonderful family who I love more than anything and for their love they show for me
The Gospel in my life and that my family is sealed forever!
The opportunity I have to be here in Chile to share the same gift I have
For my experiences in my life that have gotten me here
The love of my friends (young and old)  :)
Great example of extended family
The atonement of Jesus Christ so all is possible

This week is a time to think about these things, and how blessed I am, as are all of us. I know that as we give the credit to our Savior, as all is rightfully His, He will bless us and as we humble ourselves, only then are we susceptible to the Spirit and the blessings that come thereafter. How easy it is for us to focus on the things of the world because it´s all around us and we are a part of it but try to step back and look at what really matters. It always helps me to look at it in an eternal perspective, the things that matter aren´t really things, its the people along the way and how they remember us and what we have done to contribute to others well being.

Thank you for everything, I can´t even begin to explain my feelings and love for each of you!
TE AMO TE AMO TE AMO MUCHO!!!

PS. listen to Christmas music for me haha

November 22, 2010

Hola!

How are things going for ya´ll? It´s crazy to think that its snowing there! I keep getting sunburned and sweating to death haha but you can rub it in my face later when I´m freezing my butt off and you are all hot. Thats too bad you didn´t get to go to Boise but I guess you still have 2 years haha. How is everything else? Tell Ashley congrats on her call! That is so exciting! Thanks for the package. just a little FYI for next time they changed our address a little to a PO Box deal because the mail place gets mad that we have so many packages so from now on you can just send stuff to:

Sister Stephanie Whyte
Chile Santiago North Missioin
Forestal 2680
Oficina 32, Piso 3
Casilla 18
Conchali, Santiago
CHILE

and the reason they have you send it as cheap and slow as possible is because if you don´t it gets stuck in customs and they make you pay like 50 dollars to get it out. But ya everything here is good. I´m getting more and more comfortable with spanish and so I can at least understand people most of the time even if I don´t know what to say back haha. Carolina is getting baptized next Sunday so that is super exciting, her parents are members but they had been inactive for a while but now they are going to church and not smoking or drinking coffee so its awesome. I´ll send some pictures next time :) We also found another baptizm for Dec 5 but it probably won´t happen, Katy, she is a friend of the bishops daughter and really wants to be a member and her mom gave her permission but her dad is schizophrenic and tells her yes one time and is totally against it the next. Plus they have a family thing every Sunday and wont let her miss it to come to church...therefore, who knows what will happen. And then Sandali who has a bap date of the 5th tambian didn´t come to church- she slept in (its really hard for people to come to church because they say its too early (10:00) so we loose a lot of people that way) but we just have to remind them how important it is. But I think she will come through and make it for the 5th.

This week we had a conference with Elder Corbridge from the Chile area Presidency and it was really good. The problem was it was in Spanish so I didn´t understand some of it but from what I know it was good haha I like that he said the presence of Christ in this life is the Holy Ghost. Yesterday he came to our Stake Conference and I liked that he said ¿Can you imagine what it would be like to go through the Temple with the Prophet and all the Apostles? You can because its the same as every other time. This isn´t a church of leaders its The Church of Jesus Christ of Members of the Latter-Days. I hope that makes sense in English but it was really good.

On Fri I had my phase 1 training in the mission home and learned a little more so it was good and we also found a lady who lives with her Mom and her sister was there. We taught them and they liked our church, the first thing the sister said was ¨baptize me¨ haha... every Missionaries dream but she is not in our sector, she lives in a totally different zone but it was super cool. They said they are too busy during the week but we are teaching them all again next Sunday.

Something exciting is we got an oven!!! Brand new...super sweet! We havent used it yet because we have to buy some gas but we are excited to make some cookies or something. Our apt is going to be the nicest apt in the mission I think because we got an electric water heater and our land lord came up and said he will fix the walls that are broken. He said it was fine for men but ladies need a nice place to live haha whatever it takes  I guess:) The Bishop and his wife invited us over for Christmas so we will probably do that, they are super nice (she is the one who does our laundry) and so at least we have something to do (that is if I don´t get transfered)

What are all your plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas? I¨m sure everything is super busy and it´s hard to even have time to think about it but HAPPY THANKSGIVING! We kind of got a pumpkin pie thing at the Mission Conference with Elder Corbridge, it was a crust thing with a tiny little bit of pumpkin filling and had cool whip on top... it was a good Thanksgiving meal :) Oh I drank the most discusting thing yesterday, it was this juice stuff, I have no idea where it came from but did not taste good and then they soak little peaches in it and then they put it in your cup with some barley but in ours it wasn´t really barley they said it was just some stuff that falls off their tree haha it was discusting but I did get it down and lived to tell about it... haha:) It was our reward of thanks for helping their grandson with his English homework haha. Life is good though. It´s great because the members take such good care of you all the time, they haven´t had sisters in a long time so they are super excited and want to make sure we stay. I¨m slowly getting used to their 3 or 4 course lunches haha the other day the nicest old couple fed us but it didn´t settle right and we were teaching a lady we contacted but I HAD to go to the bathroom so I asked her and she said no so I just kept praying so so hard that I wouldn´t crap my dress right there on her chair haha and she couldn´t make up her mind about when we could come back and my comp was trying not to laugh because I looked like I was going to die but we got out of there and there was a member outside her house a few houses down, so she let me use her bathroom and like always here there is never any toilet paper so finally after searching the place I decided to just man up and go...low and behold there was no way to flush the toilet haha just my luck I know.. I looked forever and just walked out and asked her she said sorry the toilet doesn´t work very well but I´ll figure out a way... oh man I felt so bad.. I have no idea how she ¨figured it out¨ she is a saint. I¨m sure God has a place in heaven for here :)

Sorry I always just talk about myself... I want to hear about yall! :) What is new? Has the weather been pretty bad or comes and goes? Annie, are you liking your play, who is your character, and I´m sure you are super super excited to graduate in like a month PARTY!!!!! Mom, have you been working full time, part time or a little of both? Dad, are you still running all over the country with windshieds or stay a little closer? Liz, did you decide to babysit next semester? Keith and Amber, are you keepin busy with work, how are the boys?

Sister Sarah Buckner (my trainer) her parents phone number is

801 566 4795  and their names are Jeff and Elaine, they live in West Jordan UT. 801 366 0105 is her dads work, and 801 913 3784 is her moms cell because she said they are never home. laneygirl94@yahoo.com is her moms email too.

She only has like five months left but we are getting along really well and hope we stay together for at least one more transfer. She said she kind of knew Craig just through the ambassador thing but there were a lot so he prob wont know her.

Sorry I don´t have any pictures to send this week, I didn´t take any but next week I´ll send some from the baptizm and from something else we do today, I´m not quite sure what we are doing but  Hermana and I decided this transfer since we are super close to town we will do a lot of tourist things so I´m excited.

Ya we walk everywhere, our sector is super super small so its not far at all and plus its in the city so there are houses and people everywhere. I found out a little more where we are at, We are in Recoleta, which is just north of Santiago, a lot of the people there still work in Santiago because it´s only about a 20 min on the metro. It´s  more ghetto than the city and more trashy but I like it. Everyone in the mission walks unless you are super in the country then you have bikes but you also take buses a lot. I hope sometime or another I¨ll serve in the country, that is where Hermana Buckner just came from and she loved it. Our area has been good for success and so I feel blessed.

Thank you for all your prayers and your support. I have the best family in the world!!! I¨m great so don´t worry about me, a lot of times it doesn´t feel like we are across the world from each other I seriously feel like I´m in Mexico or somewhere a little closer so it´s kinda nice :) oh ya Mom, I like how you just slipped in your line about Mexico in the e-mail...hoping I wouldn´t really notice haha just kidding but that is super exciting! It will be nice to get some warmth in and get away for a while. Do you know what your going to do? Is anyone going with you like Cliff or anyone? Tell everyone there 'Hi' for me and tell them next time I come I will be able to communicate with them better...hopefully... haha

Thank you again for everything!!! Hopfully I haven´t put you to sleep with this SUPER long e-mail (they say super here a lot, its pretty funny) but have a good week and a great Thanksgiving!
TE AMO TE AMO TE AMO!
Siempre,
Steph

November 15, 2010

Hola Familia!

Glad to hear things are good there. I feel like Im in a completely different world down here, well I guess it is haha. Things are super good though! My companion is Sarah Buckner from West Jordan Utah. She is so fun, she went to Utah State (was an ambassador for living on campus thing) and she is a super good missionary. Hard worker, super fun and nice. We get along really well.

I´m in a ward called Villa Primavera. It´s outside Santiago, kind of a smaller town but it´s only about 10 min on the metro into Santiago. (I would tell you more if I actually knew where is was but I just take the metro having no idea where I´m going with 3 different lanes of metros and follow my companion haha) The area we are in- there hasn´t been Sisters there in anywhere from 5-30 years (we have heard all sorts of numbers from the members) but they are super good to us. There are a lot of single women and women whos husbands aren´t memebers so they love it because we can finally come over to their house for lunch. Everyday we have lunch with a memeber. It´s super great to get to know them and they are all super nice even though I dont really know what they are saying half the time :)

I´m still with Hermana Evans. There are 4 of us living together and we just split our sector that the 2 elders used to cover and now there are 4 Hermanas there. So it´s super small but it kinda makes it nice. Its amazing how fast you get used to the different way of life though. It seems like I have always just woken up, climbed out the window, and hooked up the gas so I can take a warm shower (because before they changed the water heater- dang was it cold) but ya life is good. They wash the dishes like I do :) Well they never use warm water or soap, they basically just rinse them off and put them back in the cupboard haha its funny. Lets see what else have I noticed.... It´s a lot like Mexico kind of a mixture of Chet and Cancun. There are nice houses and not so nice houses but they are all small and simple. I like where I´m serving because it´s not super super ghetto (or as they say here flite) and it´s not rich. But my comp said that its pretty much the most ghetto place that they will send sisters to.

I¨m going to send this and if you are on you can write back but I¨ll send another one in a min...

Cont'd
Ok so ya we are in downtown Santiago right now. We had a zone activity this morning where we played capture the flag and had hot dogs- I¨ve already had more hot dogs than I have ever had in my life haha but they aren´t too bad. And my transformer burned up so we came here to change my money and buy a straightner, blowdryer, and sock. I don´t need any money though. I have plenty for the moment. I will probably use my cash because you can only exchange it in Santiago and so after today I¨ll be set.

We had 4 investigators at church yesterday!!! One of them was from the Elders that were here before- Carolina, she is 9 and super great. Her parents are members but haven´t really been active. She is super excited to to get baptized on the 28th and she is super great. She loves having us over so it´s kinda the highlight of my day too. Then there is Sandali who is 14, she is super good too. She was just interested more about us and yesterday we committed her to be baptized on Dec 5. We are also trying to teach her friend Steven who is 10 (he came to church too) he really likes meeting with us (in Sanalis house) but his parents don´t want him to so I´m not sure if he will be able to come much more. I hope he does though.

My Spanish is not ready for Chile! But oh well I´m here and it´s definitely interesting but I´m trying to just keep at it. People don´t really know what I´m saying have the time but they are nice about it- then my companion repeats what I said because they have no idea what I just said haha it´s an interesting process. I can´t wait til some day I´ll be able so say what I want to say.

Time has already passed by super fast. I have been learning lots in the field and we have a training at the mission home on Friday so that will probably help. Also Elder Corrbige (I have no idea how to spell that) is coming so we are having a conference with him and he is also talking in the stake where I´m at on Sunday. So that will be nice to listen to something in English :)

As far as Christmas goes. I don´t really know what to tell you. The mission pretty much gives us everything we need. But if you do send something just send it regular- cheapest way because my comp said that is the best way- it actually gets here and it doesn´t cost both arms and legs. If you really need ideas- I´m always wearing those small dress socks that don´t show a whole lot. I don´t like the really thin ones that don´t cover anything because they fall off but I really don´t need anything so don´t worry. I also can´t think of things the members need. Sorry I´m not any help but we are just well taken care of :) The Elders in the office love us and will do pretty much anything we ask... we got new chairs in our apt and a new fan...life is good.  Everything is pretty much the same here. It is really hot but people say it´s only spring and it gets super hot in Dec and Jan so that will be interesting. I can´t image a week ago when I was freezing my butt off... I got sunburned a couple days ago- not bad but just a little pink. Wow crazy huh.

How are things there? Congrats on the part Annie! That is so cool- I´m sure you will do awesome. Do you have a lot of snow up there? This  keyboard is super hard to get used to so sorry if things are wrong. I´m slowly getting used to everyone using the word po- I have no idea when to use it but oh well we aren't really supposed to use it anyway but sometimes we do just so we don´t sound like such foreigners. Another word they use is fome (don´t know how to spell that either) but it means lame- people use it all the time.  Oh, I forgot to talk about the other lady that came to church her name is Jauna we just met her in the street, we contacted here and asked if there was anything we could do to help her, she said I don´t need help but I know some people who do, and she took us to 2 peoples houses where we shared a song and a scripture- and we got appts with both this coming week. And she was inviting everyone to church haha it was awesome. She liked church a lot but it was super hard because my comp was playing the piano and I was sitting there with 3 investigators that I couldnt´really talk to so when they had questions it was hard but I think they all liked it, so thats good.

Also we are starting classes. The other Hermanas (Evans and her comp Juarez from Argentina) are doing English lessons and me and my comp are doing piano lessons. They are on Saturdays so that will be fun we have had lots and lots of people that want to come so hopefully I´ll remember something about my piano lessons so I can help them :)

We are working with members active and inactive. We have a list of 28 pages of members and only 78 at church but I hear thats pretty good so who knows. Whats the funniest is when people forgot that they were baptized until we start talking with them then they remember and say oh ya- we tell them to come to church and then maybe the next time they see Missionaries they might at least remember that they are members.

Here the big meal is lunch. They have HUGE lunches, it´s like a Sunday dinner every day but I´ve had pretty good things. Nothing super out of the ordinary... well out of the ordinary for here. Like salad of lima beans and onions. But they aren´t too bad, just eat whats in front of you and it´s all good. I ate my first completo this week. Its a hot dog with tomatoes on top, a ton of avacados mushed up and a ton a ton of mayo (the mayo is a little different, its like more runny). It wasn´t too bad they only thing I didn´t like was the mayo but mixed in with the bite of hot dog it´s not too bad. I also like the cheese empanadas. they are really good. It´s like in Mexico when there are tiendas every block so if we are dying we can just stop and get something. We have a store pretty close to our house that is kinda like Walmart. Its called Liter and so we go there on p days to get our stuff. The only hard thing is carrying it back 10 blocks but thats probably nothing and it´s not too bad. The church is only 3 or 4 blocks from our house to that is super nice and everyone knows where it is because ít´s the nicest building in town. haha What else to tell you... everything is good! I´m loving it and though its hard not being able to communicate with people its ok. There are moments that make up for all the rude people and the heat and everything. When you get to help someone realize the importance of Christ in their lives everything comes together and it´s all worth it.

I´m excited to be here, Hermana Buckner celebrates her 1 year mark this week. She said it goes by super fast and I believe it. I know it can only get better :) Thanks for all your love and support!!! Ya'll are amazing and I hope everything is going good. Let me know if there is anything you need or want from Chile- it is pretty sweet so I wouldn´t blame you if you wanted something ;) haha

I have no idea whats going on in the world around me so feel free to tell me anything that goes down... Every Wed. on the main street in town they have a food market and then every Sat and Sun they have a vending market, but they usually start late in the afternoon when we are busy, so we just use our p day to buy stuff we want.

I probably won´t write the same time next week because this week was diff with the activity and going into town but I do get Dear Elder and letters every Tuesday so that is super nice. I´m still working on converting the money but from what I know things are about the same price here as in the States. Maybe a little cheaper for somethings like vendors selling necklaces for 2 dollars. but generally about the same. I´m getting used to using milk from a box and the ketchup, mustard and mayo from little bags that look like Werthers candies bags with a little lid thing on the side you squirt it out of. There are no plastic bottles here except for the soda and stuff. Jam and salsa and everything come in those bags. But life here is good. I´m loving every min and hope that I catch on to things fast. I´m glad I´m not in down town Santiago, its crazy here and I have no idea what is going on but I like my little town, even though its big and just kind of a sector of Santiago its more chill and more layed back. Oh it was funny today for capture the flag the Elders led us to this park where all these homeless people live, it was super funny watching our backpacks while playing just to make sure no one stole them. We have a super nice park a few blocks from our house but it´s closed on Monday so we couldn´t go there. My sector (area) also reminds me of Mexico- we needed  copies of our map and we went to every store in town and they didn´t do copies but told us the store down there and over there do but they didn´t and they told us a different story when we asked.. I couldn´t help but think... this is so like Mexico all over again. hahaha... good times.

What else... sorry I just keep rambling and then something will pop in my head so I´m all over the place but I hope it makes some sense and kinda gives you an idea of life here. Here are some pictures... the one of the land was on our first day, the bus ride to the mission home, then there is one of my comp and me, my bathroom and kitchen after hours of cleaning (nasty elders who don´t clean) I will send more interesting ones next week hopefully. I was just so proud of our apt. when we got done cleaning so I had to take pics haha there is a window on the left side of the picture of our stove, that is the window we climb out of to switch the gas. But  ya life is good here and I hope its the same there, keep me updated and know that I LOVE YOU and am super super grateful for all your prayers because I couldn´t do it without you!!!!!!!! TE AMO TE AMO TE AMO MUCHO!!!!!

Hola Familia!!!!

I can't believe it's my last week! Time has flown!!!!!!!! I don't have a whol lot of time but I have been getting your dearelders- thanks!! It's so fun to hear from all of you. Thanks for the package of treats and stuff. I had an AMAZING week. Richard G. Scott came on Tues and talked to us. It was about his life lessons and things he has learned of how to be lead by the spirit. He actually made a print out of it but they won't let us copy them because it's just supposed to be for the people that were there but I'll see what I can do later. I did take some notes that I'll send home with some other stuff. It is free for me to send a package to a place by shopko here in provo so i'll give them nicoles cell number and if she picks it up in 1-2 days its free so I'll probably do that with some things even though it won't be a whole lot. There is supposed to be another general athority coming this week for devo (tomorrow) so I'll tell you about it when I call. Because I leave on SUNDAY!!!!!!

Here is the scheudle: (there is 22 of us so we are the group Eric Young was getting ready for) It's a huge group and I'm super excited to go!

Sunday Leave the MTC and 12 noon
Fly American Airlines fight 1392 from SL to Dallas 2:35-6:10
then flight 945 from Dallas to Santiago 9:10pm - 9:50am. That should be fun!!!

So thats what I'm doin and where I'll be on Sunday. I'm not sure of peoples church schedules but I will call in SL and in Dallas probably. Let me know if a certain time works best for any of you (i can't check my e-mail again before I leave so you will have to do it through dearelder if you have a specific time) I'm not sure how many min I have on my card but I will just make whatever I have work because I don't have that long of a lay over or anything. As far as bags go. I'm going to just do 50 pounds and not pay extra I may have a lot of stuff in my bookbag and just wear my coats and heavy stuff. There might also be some elders with extra weight so I'm sure I'll be fine. And the rest of the stuff I"ll just send to Nicole.

On Sat all the bathrooms in the sisters residence halls were closed because a pipe broke. So we had the genious idea to sneak out and go to a diff building that has a big bathroom with showers in it. (we all wanted to shower for sunday) and so we sneak out there, get over there and they have shut the water off to the showers because they aren't used anymore but we at least got to brush our teeth so it was worth it :)
Then yesterday we sang armies of helamen in church well i didn't sing, I just played the piano but It was really good and then I got called on to give a talk on Faith. (we just all write talks and then they choose 2 people to give them and I was the lucky winner this week) we have only had a few people talk from our district but it wasnt' too bad. It wasn't too long either but I think I pronounced the words ok and it wasn't too bad. Although after sacrament I did start to cry when another sister in my zone started to cry in the closing song  God be with you till we meet again. It's so hard to leave this place and all the amazing friends I made while I was here but I'm super excited and a little nervous to go. I'm just looking forward to not knowing what people are saying let a lone know what to say to them. It's going to be great.

For Halloween (when we got back to our room an 9pm) we dressed up as zombies and went trick or treating to a couple doors. It was fun (pictures to come) I'm sending home cd's of my memory card. When you get them take a look and see if they work because I might need to errase the card someday if I run out of space but at least that will give me a few backups (it will be one thing in the box for Nicole)

Elder Wong leaves in the morning, I saw him today and he is super excited. he said you had written him. Also tell Logan Hi for me!  Mom, how do you like your hair? If you want to change something for next time (color, placement, ect.) just let me know and I'll send home new instructions. I'm getting my haircut on Wed. I'm nervous but I thought it would be better here than in Chile when I don't really know what I'm telling the lady haha.

Thanks again for all your letters and love and support!!!!!!!!!! Sorry this is so short and random. I'm so scatterbrained because the last p day is busy but at least I'll be able to talk to you in less than a week so that kinda makes up for it. I know my p days are Mondays and I get an hour and a half to e-mail so hopefully I will be able to catch you up and explain Chile enough so it's like your there within the first few weeks. I'm sure I'll have lots of interesting moments. I can't think of anything I need you to send, or somthing I'm going to miss. I guess if I haven't missed it yet I don't need it. I'm thinking I might use my debit card for my check in fees and so I think I'm golden.

I can't believe the time has already come and I know when I get in the field its going to go even faster but I love you all and can't wait to talk to you on SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!

TE AMO TE AMO TE AMO!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the best family ever!!!!!!!!

Hi Family!

Sounds like you have had an exciting week! Mine has flown by, it seems like nothing has happened. But I'll try to think of things to write about. I also thought you should check out dearelder.com cause I think people should be able to write me through there even after I go to the field then it would be a lot faster and we get it once a week, I think. Our new zone leader is an Elder from Idaho Falls and come to find out he is Scott and Peggy Hansens nephew. He is going to Mexico- he is super cool and a great missionary.

This past week Elder Nelson came and talked to us! It was AMAZING!!!! He gave some really good thoughts about being a good missionary. I forgot my notes but he said to always smile and keep your battery charged. It was fabulous and I need to remember that because I never used to think about the field but now I think about going to Chile everyday- it's going to be so fun I can hardly wait. But I only get the MTC once in my lifetime so I have to enjoy every min of it! We don't need visas to get into the country so we don't have to worry about that luckily because no one is getting through and we should get our travel plans on Fri so I will keep you updated and let you know when I might call and all that jazz.

I can't believe next week is Halloween! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!! Has it snowed there at all? It only flurried here today but there is snow way up in the mountains. I kinda want snow before I leave just because I won't see it 2 years. Who would have ever thought I would say I want snow :)

We don't work in the call center. I know they have missionaries specifically called to do that and they might have people who speak other languages do it but we never do. We have girls next door to us in the residence hall from Mexico, Columbia, Bolivia and I'm not sure where else. But they are so fun to talk to. I need to practice listening to spanish so thats how I started talking to them. I don't understand what they are saying sometimes but they are all really good at english so they help me. It's fun and gets me super excited to go to Chile. Sorry I keep mentioning going to chile but I just can't stop thinking about it CHILE!!!!!! jeje (I feel truly hispanic when I laugh with j's :)   Based on how fast the last few weeks have gone by I know I'll be shipping out before long. I hear from a teacher in our zone (her little sister is in my mission) that it's amazing and the food is really good and there is a lot of Dominicans that she can understand but she can't understand anything the Chilians say...so much to look forward to :)

I saw Daniel Wong a couple days ago. I think he said he leaves a week from tomorrow. I'm excited for him. His english is really good. He said he is nervous about the winter but I told him he will like it! Our roomates (withers) left for DC yesterday- they were so excited. It's so crazy because you get to know so many people so well here and then you will probably never see them again in your entire life. Its amazing how fast you can get to know people  (granted we do spend all day every day with eachother). We got a new zone this week too but we had two leave so we are still pretty small. It's cool though in our new district there is an Elder that is 25 so he barly made it since you can only be 26. He said he left the church when he was 18 as soon as he could and then he just started going back to church a year ago and his first week back in his bishops interview his bishop said you need to go on a mission so he prayed about it for 3 weeks straight and new it was what he should do. It's sooo cool he is here and how dedicated he is. He left behind is career, his house and everything. Now that is dedication. I feel like I didn't have to give up anything compared to that. Thank you mom and dad for all your support. Yesterday the church mission department guy (I don't know his title) Brother Allen came and said that even though your parents are working really hard to keep you out here (like you are) the people you teach, convert, and effect will not only thank you but thank them for eternities for their work to keep you out. Thank you for everything. I have the best family ever!!! and friends!!!!

Glad the game, parade, Liz's and everything went ok. And at least I didn't miss out on the game :) but I hope it's all good and everyone is well. I love you sooooooo much and it will be exciting to talk to as many of you as I can. Oh by the way- i don't know anyones phone number so if you could send me them that would be great- I can't just look them up in my phone anymore :) Although, I don't really miss having those things and I will in a couple weeks just for different uses. It's going to be wierd going back into the real world again.

Oh and the elder that joined our district who broke his leg (elder Rouse) just got clearance today to leave this week so that is so exciting. He deserves it after being here for 14 weeks!!!! Tell granny and grandpa to look out for him and Elder Pond in the Dallas mission. They were both in my zone and hopefully remember me. SO if they see them tell them Hi for me :)

Thank you for everything!!!!!! You are the best! Thanks for your prayers- they help me a ton! I couldn't do it without them!

TE AMO TE AMO TE AMO MUCHO!!!!!!!!!
