2012 here we are! We didn`t do too much to celebrate there were a lot of drunk people everywhere we went and one invited us to their BBQ but luckily we got out of that one. Then there was this guy who had a baby in his arms, probably about 4 months old. And he was telling us how much he loved him but it wasn`t his baby and all this jazz and he wanted us to give him a blessing. We tried to explain that we can`t give blessings but he was so drunk it was pointless so we told him that we would say a prayer. And afterwards he went around  telling people that his baby was blessed.,, haha:) It was pretty funny! That night, we went to this families house, the Mom is a member but the Dad isn`t. She is from Peru. They had a BBQ (everyone here has a BBQ for New Years) so we ate with them and they have a handicap daughter, Milagros (20 years old), who is SO funny. She cranked up the music and started dancing and singing. I think it was my favorite part of New Years. We were laughing soo hard. Then we watched fireworks from our balcony. We live on the 3rd floor so we could see pretty good. They just aren`t the same when you are far away... but it was still good.

Then on Sunday we celebrated the New Year with A BAPTISM!!!!! Matias got baptized!!! Everything went really well. He was so excited! His Grandma (who he lives with) is a member but both his Mom and Dad came to... so it was great! The primary kids sang him "I am a child of God". It was so off tune but it was cute. As a gift we gave him the movie "The Testaments." He was so excited to watch it, it was funny. Not much else happened this week. In the country we helped a lady peel beans. There is a member in our ward  from Paraguay and she made us this fruit salad stuff from her country. It was good. On Sat., I decided to keep track of how much pop we drink, because everyone gives you pop. In one day I had seven glasses of soda pop. That is so disgusting. It`s so hot outside you just want a glass of water but when you tell them that they think your crazy and give you a huge glass of pop. ah los Chileanos.

It sounds like yall had a good Thanksgiving weekend. It seems like a lot of stuff went down throughout the week. My week wasn`t quite as exciting as yours but it was a good Thanksgiving. We cooked a pretty good meal. We went to the fair where they sell a bunch of food and made mashed potatoes and bought some chicken but when we took it out and cooked it, it wasn`t very chickenie. It was falling apart and what not but we ate it and in the end, it wasn`t too bad. It wasn`t chicken but at least it tasted kinda like chicken :) But both of us have been a little sick this week with head colds so we didn`t celebrate too much.

Monday was kind of a bummer because we went to the country with this family (who are members) to have  FHE with our investigator who was going to get baptized yesterday and when we get there found out that she got in a car accident and was in the hospital. It was with a big bus but nothing to serious happened. She is 5 months pregnant and started having contractions so she had to be in the hospital for a day and now she is on bed rest so she coudn`t go to her interview or get baptized yesterday. But everything is good and she is going to get baptized on Dec 11. 

Then as a Zone Saturday morning we had a turkey bowl where we played football Americana for 3 hours in the blazing sun. It was hot but fun. But now we are feeling it. Our whole body hurts but it was fun to do something different. Because usually we just play soccer. Every Sat at 6:30am, every zone activity, soccer soccer soccer. But my skills havn`t gotten any better because the Elders are ball hogs... haha:)

Yesterday was the primary program in Sacrament. It was good but I missed our programs. Here, there are only about 15 kids in the whole primary and none of them did anything funny. But it was a really good program. All of the older kids wrote their own talks about different subjects and it was good. But I am excited to go to our primary program to get a few more laughs. Oh and we were teaching a lesson with a member and we heard a crunch outside... It was another car accident! Luckily, the member who was with us is studying to be a doctor and so he was there to help this kid whos head was split open all the way across. We decided, that is why he had to accompany us :) So we had a week of excitement with car accidents. 

Thats my week for ya. We found a lady who is so confused. She is catholic and all that jazz but she watches this stuff on TV about how scientists say that they can`t find evidence that Christ lived and another says he lived but that he wasn`t perfect, he had sins because it`s impossible to not sin. And she just believes everything she hears. So it`s always interesting to hear what she is going to say.

I think I have seen the movie ¨Together Forever¨ one too many times... haha:) I`m such a missionary...

What a week!! I`m sure you all are busy with summer coming to an end, things in the family, work, and just life in general. But I hope everyone is doing ok. I hope you all keep me updated on everything that is going on. If you have memories of Granny it would be fun to hear about them. I know we all have a TON because we have a great family an have all had a LOT of good times! It is a blessing that she isn`t going to suffer any longer and that her and Grandma B can be best friends up there and take special care of Grandpa to repay him for all his hard work. People are always worried about what is going to happen with two wives but like Mom always said, ¨God has everything planned out¨ and I know they are going to be up there partying. so we might as well be here partying a little too  :)

This week has been good. A little crazy but good. Hermana Eborn rolled her ankle on Tuesday morning when we were running and we thought it was ok until about 3 o'clock when she couldn't walk anymore. So we spent a day in the house with her ankle elevated and on ice. That stunk but now she is feeling almost back to normal and can maybe start running the end of this week.

Paz, the daughter of Glorian (who got baptized a couple weeks ago) finally decided to get baptized on the 28th of August. I am SOOO excited! She is so ready and loves the church and knows so much. She is 12 and so cute. They did a stake activity here where each ward represented a South American country and they did a dance and told about it and had typical food from there. We couldnt go but I heard it was awesome and Paz danced and the whole family went and loved it. They brought back pictures and it looked super fun. So it`s practically like she is already a member but now she is actually going to be a member. And the best part is that I will for sure be here. It is the last day of the change and I will probably get transferred so it will be the best going a way gift ever!

Also, Ximena, the wife of Jose (who got baptized about 3 months ago) (the crazy cat lady) she wants to get baptized on Sept 18th. Which is independence day here and so she said, I can get baptized and we can have a big party :)  So we are excited for that. She is scared of the water but we are going to help here with that. The funny part is, that she doesn`t like us (the missionaries) at all. But she loves the church and everything. She just tolerates us because she knows that we have to teach her everything. So hopefully everything goes ok and we don't die of cat smell before then... haha:)

That is pretty much all that is going down here in Chile. All the schools are still crazy but not where I`m at. Nothing really happens here. It has started warming up (depending on the day) sometimes we leave with just long sleeves on, which makes me love my life! And hopefully we are leaving beans season. Everyone feeds us beans because it`s warm and like they say ¨has lots of protein¨ but as it gets warmer, they snap out of the warm food season. Things are good here in the south.

I hope you all have a good week and that you are doing ok. Annie keep me updated on the baby (and if you cant, just tell someone to tell me when you have it) and good luck with work, home, life, ect.  Have a little fun and remember I love you all so much and am always thinking about you!

Hi all,

 

I hope that your week has been wonderful up there in the sun. It has been a little crazy here for me. I spent the whole week thinking this was my last week in this area and taking pictures with everyone and all that jazz, and then when we got the call last night (at 2 am) I found out that I am staying!!! (yes, that will make 9 months in this area and yes, that is half of my time in Chile) haha !!! I will be training a new gringa who will get here tomorrow.  I am excited, but freaking out a little bit. It will be nice to have her excitment to be here to keep me working hard in this area. I love it here though, so it will be a good next 6 weeks!

 

Story of the week,

 

We went to one of our investigators house to help with some house cleaning. We get there Friday morning and she tells us to come in. We pass and we ask how she is doing and she says horrible. We have been fighting all morning here and turns out that her son punched her in the eye and all this stuff, her daughter of 20 (the investigator) was in the back crying and the son who punched her (18) was mad and in his room and then her son who is 3 was just kind of chillin. We had no idea what to do to help?!?!?! We decided to say a prayer. So we invite everyone to join and no one wants to, so we are just praying with the Mom, and then she wants to go talk to her daughter who is crying. We are just kinda chillin out in the living room and so we start cleaning, folding clothes and stuff. Then the son comes out of his room and goes outside. So I look outside and up pulls a cop car. I was thinking... you have got to be kiding me! What the heck do we do? They come in and talk to the screaming people inside and we are just trying to blend in by looking like just the house cleaners (2 gringas makes it a little hard) and we had no idea what to do, so we just cleaned until we couldn`t find more to clean. They were going to take away the daughter and the son to talk in the prison or something, I don`t even know, but we just said `exuse me` and walked out. We haven`t been back to see what went down. But that was the fist time something like that has happened.

 

There have been lots of soccer games with Chile playing whatever country so there have been lots of screaming and partying in the streets (that is until they lost last night) but now I think it`s over so things should be a little calmer.

 

Lets see, what else happened.... Its Hermana Players birthday tomorrow so all these people were going to celebrate with us, but now she won`t be there and I won`t be there until the afternoon, so the family Urrea had us come over this morning and we had cake and breakfast together. It was fun! I am excited to be here for Glorians baptism on the 31st. On Sunday her duaghter Paz came to church for the fist time and said she wants to get baptized so we are going to see if she will do it within the next 6 weeks, so I might be here for that too. All these people that I thought I would never be here to see get baptized are going to get baptized while I`m here, it`s great!

 

To celebrate the end of the transfer, on Thur we went to McDonalds in our area for lunch...

This video is of people on the bus today on the way to write/email home. People just get on and do random things. Today it was rapping but there is anything from violin to opera singing. It is pretty fun to see who gets on the bus. I haven`t watched it to see if it`s exciting but I just recorded the last little part. Hopefully you enjoy it. At the end, they collect money (as missionaries we don`t donate) but they said that all of the money was going to a good cause to make one of the rapper guys into a woman. So that just made it all the more interesting... hahaha:) We just started laughing!!!

 

Well, we have to go clean our apt. to get everything ready, and we have to go preach the word, so all the other details of my life will have to wait until next week :) Plus, I can`t think of much more that happened this week. Life is pretty dang good here, just doin' my thang and that is pretty much it. I will send you more updates next week when I know more about what is happening. But have a great week! Mom, have a Happy Birthday!, Annie, have a happy baby shower (don`t pop too soon) and everyone else, keep doin what your doing :) and remember to be happy- I thought since I was using `happy`a lot, I might as well keep it up...

So, there is so much to tell you this week. I hope you don´t get to bored. But THANK YOU ALL for the birthday wishes. It was a great day. I sent a ton of pictures that I took throughout the day. We went and visited Maria in the morning and then we went to lunch at the Family Ñancupil and that was fun (see attached video). The family Urrea had told us a few days earlier that there is a lady in their complex who is going to be at their house on Sat so if we could just happen to ¨show up¨ and teach her a little about what we believe. We went over and of course it was all a lie...they had cake waiting for me. They have a tradition here where after they sing Happy Birthday they start chanting, Bite it! then you go into take a bite of the cake and they either shove the cake in your face or they push the back of your head to plant your face into the cake, so they did that, but it was really gentle and I only got a little bit dirty. It was fun. Then we went and taught some regular lessons and then we went to Glorian´s (who is going to get baptized at the end of the month). I didn´t know she knew it was my birthday but then they brought out a bunch of gifts and flowers. Her husband had bought the flowers and her daughters picked out earrings (that are really cute) and eyeshadow (which has a bunch of weird colors) Conny drew me a picture of the church, and they got me lip gloss in the shape of a strawberry, and a stuffed animal duck (that the girls named ¨duck¨ but in spanish, original I know... haha)  I have no idea what I´m going to do with it, should carry it around or what? But it was fun, then they gave us more food. But it was a great day! Everyone is so nice and kept saying, I know it´s not like  when you are at home with your family- and it wasn´t -but I figure it is the only birthday I am going to have in Chile so I might as well enjoy every minute of it. Mom and Dad, thanks for celebrating in Jackson for me.. haha:)

We had interviews with Pres Essig this week. He is super nice and when I told him that I have been in this area for 7 months he said that SLC is telling them to keep the missionaries in areas longer, so I don´t know if that means that I´m not going to get transferred next week or what but we will see what happens. Hermana Essig said she lived in the pink Murdock house that was rock on the bottom (I´m not quite sure what one that is) but her maiden name was Sorensen, her Mom was related to those Murdocks and her Dad was David Sorensen who taught at Snake River- music and history. So she thought you might know him or have heard of him. They are so cute. Sister Essig is working on her Spanish and trying not to freeze to death. It´s funny. The thing is that it´s just as cold inside the house as outside, so it doesn´t matter where you are it´s just cold. But during the day it´s not too bad.

For the 4th of July, what did you all do? Turns out that Hermana Stevens couldn´t come into town so we hung out with Hermana Moss and Hermana Hadlock again and ate some good old McDonald´s to remind us of home, that was pretty much all. Not too exciting, but it was good.

We have found some new investigators this week that are super cool! Barbara and her 7 month old baby, Felipe, live in our apt. complex and she used to live with an old Bishop (who was bad, because he wasn´t divorced and was living with her. Felipe is his son!) but that is how she got to know the church, then she wanted to get baptized but knew that they needed to get married but he wasnt doing the things the church believes, so she didn´t want to marry him. They split up and she just moved to our apts a month ago and we just started talking in the parking lot and then went to visit her on Friday. She told us this story and said she wants to get baptized as soon as possible. So we are super excited for her.

We also contacted this guy from Colombia (so he is pretty black) and he is HILARIOUS! He is a hair dresser and talks so cool. It is so funny to talk to him. We had an amazing member come with us and the lesson went really well last night. He said he is going to read about the BOM, so we will see what happens.

We have been teaching this guy, Claudio, English and he is kinda interesting. This week he was playing charades with us like we didn´t understand Spanish. It was hilarious. He was explaining to me how you make this Chilean food. and he got out all the pans and the ingredients and was putting things in the bowl and pretending to stir and taste the food and all this jazz. It was hilarious! We were just laughing the whole time.

Oh, then Jose, who just got baptized a couple weeks ago... his house is pretty interesting, with all the cats and probably hasnt been cleaned for I don´t know how long. There are spider cacoon things (where the mom lays the eggs) under his old tv that is right by the couch and well ya...BLECH!!  Hermana Player had to go to the bathroom so I told her that if she used his bathroom and took pictures I would buy her some bread. So she did it and from the pictures it looks pretty nasty, so I bought her some bread and I think she deserved every piece of it. What we don´t do as missionaries to get a little excitement haha:)

Yesterday we broke the rules because we aren´t supposed to give money to people, but we were walking to an appt and this nice lady came up and said "Sisters how are you doing?"  we started to talk to her, shes a member from another part of Santiago and came to give medications to a lady she takes care of. On the way a guy robbed her, ripped her purse and took everything. She said she only had about 20 bucks so that wasn´t a big deal but  the meds and her cell phone... that was the worst part. She asked if we had coins so she could take the subway back to her area and we said it´s against the rules to give money and she said, "Oh that is ok" I´ll figure something out. So then we walked away and we felt so bad. We thought, Jesus would have given her money. So then we turned around and went to find her. She knocked on a door and a lady gave her 20 cents and she was all excited, so we gave her a dollar and she only needed about 40 more cents to buy a subway ticket. So we felt better, even though we broke the rules.

That is pretty much all that happened this week. It sounds like things are going pretty well there. I hear Noah is rockin' it at baseball and everyone is busy busy. Have a great week and remember I love you all so much and thanks for all you do for me! Ya´ll are the best!

 All of the birthday gifts I got from the people here. Family Urrea gave me a sweater. Glorian and her family gave me strawberry lip stuff, eye shadow, flowers, earrings, a stuffed duck, and Maria gave me more flowers

 Left to right Back: Paz (12 years old, is reading the BOM and is super fun) Glorian (the mom, who is going to get baptized on the 31st) then Conny and Me (Conny is 3 or 4 and talks a lot and really fast. She is so cute!) They gave me a bunch of stuff. The prettiest white roses and pink gerber daisys and a bunch of other stuff.

 Maria (my first baptism in this area) and she sang to me and picked these flowers out of her garden that smell SO good! 

 This is the Family Ñancupil. They are awesome! They are like my family here. They had us over for lunch and she made tacos (because she knows I love them) and then she made an orange pie... this is them singing to me. Their son, Jorge, who got back from a mission a little while ago is recording and their other son is Jose, he is getting ready for his mission. The Dad, Jorge, is our mission leader, and the Mom, Alejandra, washes our clothes and takes care of us.

It was a great day!

ok so I don´t have much time but I loaded these pictures and then I will write more later but

 

This is Clara and her daughter Valentina. She got baptized yesterday after 3 and a half years of investigating and coming to church. She is the cutest lady and her daughter is so fun. She speaks English and was dating a guy from Chicago but they broke up and now she is anxiously awaiting her confirmation next week. There were sooo many people at her baptism. I would probably guess about 55. The room was packed full and it was so great!

 

This is me and Maria yesterday. She is the one that got baptized in January. She is so cute and has so much more light in her eyes with the gospel. I love her and she is so sad that my companions are leaving today but she is happy that I´m staying. I will be calling from her house/ you will be calling her house next week so it will be fun to spend time there.

 

This video, is last monday when we went to Los Andes to visit friends of Hermana Dymocks. I spent some time with the other Hermanas which I LOVED and that was that.

We are just hoping that it works because we were so sick of the freaking ghettoness of Chile because the blasted phone card wouldn´t work to begin with (mine or Hermana Buckners) and then when we got through the ghetto phone wouldn´t work (not that it worked that good during the call) but at least we finally got to talk! Christmas Dinner Video 2010

 

 

This is the video of our Chrismas dinner at the mission home. Their house is so nice, its huge and has a pool and everything! The food was good, but not amazing. I was expecting like a home cooked Christmas dinner with the works because everyone says its amazing. And it was good, we just had a lot of veggies and stuff like that but it was fun to see everyone and we got to go caroling so, that was fun too.

December 13, 2010 Part 2 (with video)

This video is self explanatory, A video from Santa Lucia overlooking Santiago- Ya, its pretty sweet I know- even though it just looks like a big city (which thats pretty much all it is... haha:)
OK, now I can type as it loads so I have time to say everything...

Also, a man who was the Bishop in this ward for 9 years passed away on Sat. so we went to his viewing, they do it so fast here, he died at like 3:00 Sat. morning, they had the body prepared, and had the viewing Sat from 11 am to 10 pm, then they had the funeral and us 4 Sister Missionaries sang "Be Still my Soul" in espanol of course. It was sad but it was OK because he was super sick and his wife died around the same time last year. They worked together and did everything together so now they get to have Christmas together. And then an hour later after the funeral on Sunday, there was a kid in the ward who got baptized, we didn´t work with him at all because his parents are members, so we just went and once again had to sing "When I am baptized." Yep, we do a lot of singing and playing the piano.

I recieved your Christmas package!!! Thank you! I have to admit, I took a little peak. Well, I wasn´t going to but then I read Christmas Tree and decided I might as well open it and take that out so I get to enjoy it before Christmas. So I did (as you can tell from the picture) and I love it, its so cute. And I might have just happened to let my eyes wander to the other stuff but don´t worry I put a lot of it back (besides the Christmas stuff to give away (pics and pencils and jazz)) so the rest is sitting under the tree waiting for Christmas day. I wouldn´t have gotten it in my hands until tomorrow but the people in the office love us so they brought it over and we traded them for some treats so it all worked out... haha:). Thank you!

Ok- I think I will call you at 11 o'clock your time on Christmas day, so just let me know weather to use my calling card or if you want me to call real fast on it then you call Andreas house phone. Let me know and sadly we can only talk for a short time but its going to be fun! I´m excited even though I only talked to you a couple months ago, I could get used to this, but I can´t because I have 6 months to wait after this

And if I happen to get transferred...I have no idea what I will be doing or when, so hopefully this is the plan but if not I'll let you know next week because transfers are a week from today.

November 29, 2010 with Video

I¨m not sure if it works to send videos but I¨ll try it out and you will have to let me know if it works or not.

 This is a video of Sat morning soccer. Every Sat morning at 6:30 our zone goes and plays soccer. This is my first time going and we didn´t even play because we were afriad they would hate us because we aren´t good. But it was funny, there were 3 fields going and they put all the gringos on the same field so they wouldn´t mess up everyone else... haha:)  Then the other fields were of native missionaries and ones who played soccer before and then there were also members, investigators, and friends. It was pretty fun but we usually don´t wake up until 7:30 so loosing a whole hour and 15 min of sleep....don´t know if its worth it. But we have been running every morning, usually the same route so if we go to ¨play soccer¨we get to leave our sector and get different scenery for our run... haha... lame I know but it was kinda exciting... Wow, it´s amazing what you get excited about on the mission, huh??  But we will see if we go this week or not.

Wow this is taking a long time to load, I was going to write a different letter about my week but I´ll just add it on here.
This week we changed the date of Juanitas baptizm for the 19 and Sanadali our 14 yr old investigator dropped us because she didn´t feel comfortable at the church, we have lots of groups in the young womens, and she has brain tumors and so is a little bit different so it was sad that she didn´t feel like she fit in but hopefully some day she changes her mind. On Friday we helped a sister in the ward paint her bedroom. It was super fun, super messy too because it was Chilean style lol dump it in a bucket and dip in your roller, don´t worry about taping anything or getting it on the cement floor. We were covered in paint but it was fun.

For Thanksgiving, every Thurs is our planning session from noon until four so we just ordered in pizza and had a pizza party. Then went to work. I´m pretty sure everytime I eat pizza now I¨m going to think of Thanksgiving... haha:). This week we had two tremblers of earthquakes but I didn´t feel either of them. One was at about midnight on Fri. I think it was and the other one at 2:30 ish on Sat. My roomate felt the one at lunch but I didn´t feel anything.

For Christmas we are going to the temple, even though we are going a week from Fri, its part of our mission Christmas celebration. Then we have had the Bishop invite us over and also Carolina who got baptized, her family invited us over, and also an investigator Patricia, well her kids are members-they invited us over too. I think we might go to Carolinas and maybe they will let us use their phone, I might need more min on my phone card the number is 1-800-506-9511 oh the customer service number is 1-888-854-6740 and the card number is 3473-3315-4602. I don´t know if thats all you need but maybe check it out before Christmas because we can´t Skype in my mission so a phone call will have to do. But I´m excited, it hasn´t really been that long but I´m excited. Then we might go to the Bishops for a little while to. I´m not quite sure but this all depends on me not getting transfered in a couple weeks. I don´t think I will just because we just opened this sector but who knows.

I don´t have a CD player, a sister in my apt does but thats all. I don´t know how many people have them-as far as I know, not a whole lot.
